An interesting recent article in American Scientist about cosmology. Funny that word — cosmology — referring both to the study of theories about the origin and fate of the physical universe and to the idea of a “paradigm” or world-view. Our modern cosmology — in both of its senses — is changing and uncertain. It’s no surprise we (you know “we” as in “we as a society”) are prone to search for answers about metaphysical meaning beyond our western cosmology. The solace of science tainted by a universe full of mysterious darkness…
No wonder Lovecraft is still popular.

I really enjoy your writing and posts- there not the sort you can just gloss over – if only there were more hours in a day….
I am seriously considering canceling cable and getting back into a regimen of hardore reading. But this would also entail mercilessly pulling myself away from the PC…oh, the horror!

Thanks. Reading for me was (is?) a job…I was a grad student for a long time — really the only way to maintain a “regimen of hardcore reading” since, nominally, you get paid for it. Otherwise it don’t pay the bills. Then again, neither does f-ing around with your PC. ;)
